In such cases, you might take out a notebook specifically for recording the story, allowing you to review, revise, and add more details anytime. Artifacts serve as that digital notebook during your interactions with Claude.

What Are Artifacts?

Artifacts are special windows that Claude uses to share large chunks of information. These could be reports, code segments, snapshots of websites, or any piece of data you might want to preserve for future reference or repeated viewing. The advantage of Artifacts lies in their independence from your ongoing chat thread, much like a document you place separately on your desk for easy access and review.

Why Does Claude Create Artifacts?

Claude generates Artifacts under certain conditions:

1. Rich Content: When the information exceeds roughly 15 lines or contains numerous details, it qualifies for becoming an Artifact.
2. Editability: If you're likely to modify, refine, or utilize the information beyond the current conversation, it's a candidate for an Artifact.
3. Standalone Nature: The data is comprehensive enough to be understood independently, without needing additional context from the chat.
4. Practicality: If you foresee needing to revisit or reference the information repeatedly, it makes sense for it to become an Artifact.

How to Use Artifacts?

During your lively exchange with Claude, if he deems a piece of information worthy of being an Artifact, it appears in a new window adjacent to the chat interface. The benefits of this setup include:

• Easy viewing, copying, and handling of the information without sifting through lengthy chat records.
• Direct display of modifications within the Artifact window if you request Claude to tweak the information.
• Simultaneous opening of multiple Artifacts within the same conversation, akin to laying out several documents on your workspace.
• Retention of the original version by Claude, enabling you to revert to previous states via a version selector located at the bottom left of the Artifact.

Interacting with Artifacts

• Editing and Iteration: Simply instruct, "Claude, help me improve this code snippet," and the revised version will appear promptly in the Artifact window.
• Viewing Multiple Artifacts: Click on the slider icon at the top right corner of the chat interface to select the Artifacts you wish for Claude to consider, and continue your dialogue.
• Accessing Updated Content: If you request Claude to refresh the information in an Artifact, the window will instantly reflect the most recent changes.
• Handy Features: At the lower right corner of the Artifact window, you have the option to inspect the underlying code, copy the Artifact’s contents to your clipboard, or download the file for convenient reuse outside the conversation.
